Spring pilgrimage


Tours

The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation will be on tour during the Vicksburg Spring Pilgrimage with tours offered on March 14, 16, 20, 23, 24, 26, 29, and April 3.  The complex will be on the “Blue Tour” along with Anchuca and the Martha Vick House. 

This is a perfect time to visit the Foundation and tour the Academy Building, Auditorium and Convent.  For more details and times, contact the SCHF office.

Pilgrimage Performance
Save the Date!

The SCHF will host a performance on Wednesday, March 31 at 7:00 pm during pilgrimage.  Stay tuned for more information!


The Southern Book Club meets on the third Wednesday of each month.  There is no fee and it is open to the public.  New members are welcome.

The SCHF is pleased to continue offer ballroom dance classes twice monthly. James Frechette, owner of the Applause Dance Factory in Ridgeland, MS, will teach classes in ballroom, latin, country/western, and swing dance. This month the focus will be swing dance.

Individuals and couples are welcome. The fee is $20 per person for each 2 hour session. Reservations are required. For more information or to make reservations, please call the SCHF office at 631-2997.

COSMIC COLOR
The Color Wheel in Art,
Nature & Floral Design

6:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, March 23 in the Academy Building, local artist and floral designer Virginia Whittington of Suzy’s Floral Designs will be presenting a lecture, demonstration, and watercolor exhibit emphasizing the impact of the color wheel in nature, art and floral design.


St. Joseph’s Orchestra
Sunday, March 28
2:00 p.m.

On Sunday, March 28 at 2:00 the St. Joseph’s Community Orchestra will have their Spring Concert in the SCHF auditorium on the corner of Cherry and Crawford Streets.  Tickets for the event are $10.00 with proceeds benefiting the Orchestra and the SCHF.


Cobb House Restoration

The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation is pleased to announce that construction has begun on the Cobb House.  The interior restoration project if funded by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History through the Mississippi Community Heritage Preservation Grant along with the City of Vicksburg and the Warren County Board of Supervisors.  Specialty Services of Hattiesburg has been awarded the contract and construction is expected to be completed by the end of August. 

Volunteers needed

Volunteers are needed to help guide tours of the complex during Spring Pilgrimage.   Booklets with the history (no memorization required) are provided to guides.  The personal stories and memories added by our guides make each tour memorable and interesting.  If you are interested in volunteering for a day or two, please call the SCHF office.

Building fund for the Arts Grant

The SCHF has received a state grant in the amount of $21,600 from the Mississippi Arts Commission Building Fund for the Arts.  This grant will be used to make repairs to the foundation of the Academy Building, along with brick/plaster repair.  The Foundation is greatly appreciative of the Mississippi Arts Commission for all they do to support the arts in our community.
