(Vicksburg)  Larry Morrisey will discuss “ Mississippi Traditional Crafts” on Thursday, July 20, 2000, at 7:00 pm in the Southern Cultural Heritage Complex Auditorium.  As Heritage Program Director at the Mississippi Arts Commission, Morrisey works with artists throughout Mississippi, many of whom he will highlight in the lecture, including quilters, basket makers, wood carvers, boat builders, and potters.   This presentation will complement the “Quilts of Vicksburg” exhibit, which will open that day at the SCHC and run through July 22.

A native of St. Louis, Morrisey received a Master of the Arts in Folk Studies from Western Kentucky University.  In addition to administering the grants program for folk and traditional artists, recent projects include a touring exhibition and a statewide conference. He is also the co-author of an essay included in People, Power, Places: Perspectives in Vernacular Architecture, VIII (University of Tennessee Press).

The presentation is part of the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation’s (SCHF) Humanities Lecture Series, which takes place on the third Thursday of every month. The Southern Cultural Heritage Complex’s (SCHC) Auditorium is located the corner of Cherry and Crawford Streets in Downtown Vicksburg.  A reception will immediately follow the lecture. The event is free and open to the public.  For more information call (601) 631-2997 or visit the SCHF web site at www.southernculture.org.
