Independence Day Celebration Southern StyleMake plans now to join us for Vicksburg’s greatest Independence Day Celebration! SCHF is teaming up with Four Seasons of the Arts, the Vicksburg Convention Center, and the Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau to plan a weekend-long patriotic celebration leading up to the 4th of July. Saturday, July 1 The weekend begins with The God and Country Show on Saturday, July 1 honoring our troops with Paul Ott and special guest, Brigadier General Robert Crear. The performance will be at 4:00 p.m. at Wesley Hall in Crawford Street United Methodist Church. The performance is free of charge and open to the public. Local artists performing will be: Clarissa Davis, Mike Davis, Dorothy McInnis, Michael Simpson, Victor Gilliam, Mitch Beauman, J.D. Hosemann, Marsha Weaver, Linda Powell, and Dorothy Brasfield. Performance will be followed with cake and lemonade served by the Vicksburg Red Hatters. Sunday, July 2 Sunday, July 2, join us in the SCHF Auditorium for GospelFest with Patrick Smith and the Patrick Smith Band at 4:00 p.m. to be followed with an old fashioned ice cream social. The performance is free of charge and open to the public. Monday, July 3 Monday, July 3, radio and television host, Paul Ott, will broadcast the weekly radio program Listen to the Eagle at 6:00 p.m. live from the Vicksburg Convention Center. Following the broadcast, The Uncle Sam Comedy Jam, a comedy show for the entire family will be held at the Vicksburg Convention Center at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for the show are $10 in advance or $15 the day of the show and can be purchased by calling 601-630-2929 or visiting ticketweb.com While Saturday and Sunday events are free and open to the public, we would invite you to join with us as we partner with the U.S. Post Office’s Operation Phone Card. Donations will be accepted to sponsor and promote the U.S. Post Office project: A Million Minutes for Mississippi Troops! Tuesday, July 4 Tuesday, July 4, the festivities begin with children’s activities in historic downtown Vicksburg at 5:00 p.m. Activities will include Space Jumps, Waterslides, and more at the Catfish Row Art Park. The 4th of July Opening Ceremonies begin at 7:45 p.m. on the Depot Stage on Catfish Row.

Southern Book ClubThe Southern Book Club meets the third Wednesday of each month. There is no fee to attend and it is open to the public. The group focuses primarily on Southern authors and subjects, but is open to any good read. Book and author suggestions are welcomed. For July, the Southern Book Club will not meet, but will resume in August. For August, the club will discuss The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafron and Lucia Graves at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16. Ballroom DanceThe SCHF offers monthly ballroom dance classes. James Frechette, owner of Applause Dance Factory in Ridgeland, teaches classes in ballroom, Latin, swing, waltz, and many other styles of dance. Class will meet two Sundays each month in the Academy Building. Classes will not meet in July, but will resume in August. Individuals and couples are welcome.
