Our 20th Anniversary!
In 1994, the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation was
formed to preserve these historic buildings and to direct
their transformation into a cultural center. Twenty years of
carrying on our mission: emphasizing the humanities and the
arts, providing unique and quality programming for free or
at low cost to the Vicksburg community. The Gospel Truth... Sunday Brunch with The Patrick Smith Band…Celebrating 20 years at SCHF. New Orleans style Gospel Brunch in the SCH Auditorium on Sunday, October 12th at 11:30 a.m. The Brunch included a meal by STORYCOOK Favorites and entertainment by The Patrick Smith Band. To celebrate our 20th anniversary, we started the night with a “Meet and Greet” at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. Bill Ferris, a widely recognized leader in Southern studies, African American music and folklore, is the Joel R. Williamson Eminent Professor of History at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the senior associate director of its Center for the Study of the American South. He is also adjunct professor in the curriculum on folklore. Ferris, a native of Vicksburg, Miss., has written or edited 10 books, including Give My Poor Heart Ease: Voices of the Mississippi Blues (2009), translated into French as Les Voix du Mississippi (2013). Ferris signed copies of his most recent book, The Storied South: Voices of Writers and Artists, which was published in 2013 by the University of North Carolina Press. Press release.
