Facebook event page. 7th Annual Holly Days Arts and Crafts Show Saturday, December 6, 2014 in the historic SCH Auditorium from from 9:00am-3:00pm. Admission to the show is $1. Holly Days will feature an assortment of vendors showcasing their products plus local talent will entertain the attendees. The show has become a much anticipated annual event. The live entertainment will include Jeanne Evans Music Students (9am-9:45am), Vicksburg Performing Arts Company (10am-10:45am), Susan Gambrell Music Students (11am-11:45am), Church of the Holy Trinity, Conservatory of the Fine Arts Student Orchestra and Suzuki Violin Group (12pm-12:45pm), and Vicksburg High School Madrigals (1pm-1:45pm). To celebrate our 20th anniversary, we will start the night with a “Meet and Greet” at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. Bill Ferris, a widely recognized leader in Southern studies, African American music and folklore, is the Joel R. Williamson Eminent Professor of History at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the senior associate director of its Center for the Study of the American South. He is also adjunct professor in the curriculum on folklore. Ferris, a native of Vicksburg, Miss., has written or edited 10 books, including Give My Poor Heart Ease: Voices of the Mississippi Blues (2009), translated into French as Les Voix du Mississippi (2013). Ferris will be signing copies of his most recent book, The Storied South: Voices of Writers and Artists, which was published in 2013 by the University of North Carolina Press. September 2014 SCHF Receives Mississippi Arts Commission Grant. The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation has been awarded a $18,000 grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC). This grant is a portion of the $1.34 million in grants the Commission will award in 2014-2015 and will be used to continue the mission of the SCHF and bring exceptional events and quality programming to the community through artistic excellence. The grants are made possible by continued funding from the Mississippi State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts. These funds are vital in supporting the River Kids free after school art program, the huge variety of performances, workshops, exhibits, and the many other events and programs that are so important in growing awareness of the arts to the community and surrounding areas. River Kids Free After School Art Program Fall Semester will begin on August 28, 2014. Open to any child in 1st through 6th grade, the program will accept 60 students for the class on Thursdays from 3:45 to 5:00 pm. It will expose creativity through drawing, painting, crafts, collage, ceramics, sculpture and many more exciting techniques. Experienced and accredited educators, Karen Biedenharn and Regina Renot, plan and teach each class. The program is free, but will require a full semester commitment from the parents. Facebook event page Mississippi Art Colony Exhibit. Mississippi Art Colony was established in 1948 at the Allisons Wells Hotel in Way, Mississippi. The Smithsonian lists the Colony as the country's oldest artist-run organization of its kind. The members meet twice a year (Spring and Fall) at Camp Henry S. Jacobs near Utica, MS.
